An Innovative Family
Program for Youth
with Weight Challenges

The Mobilize Youth Approach

MobilizeYouth asks families to commit to the 16-week program for a minimum of twice weekly. Sessions run 3 times weekly, two days after school and one weekend session. Kids and teens, who may not have weight issues but want to get in terrific shape to maintain a good level of physical activity, are welcome.

THE PROGRAM:

Tailored to your child's capacity, the one and a half hour sessions consist of 50 minute workouts: weight training, track program, cardio circuit, sports drills, spinning, as well as field sports when the weather is nice. In the weight room, older teens are on their own customized fitness program; all participants are under the guidance of caring, skilled coaches experienced in working with youth and families.Through proper instruction, kids learn how to use the machines properly to confidentally achieve their goals.

It can be a challenge to keep teens engaged but this program provides enough diversity to build confidence through non-competitive activities.

HOME SUPPORT:

Home-based weekly exercises are given to kids who require that little bit of extra attention in preparation for the Mobilize fitness sessions.

A FAMILY FOCUS:

The Program offers participants practical nutrition sessions examining attitudes, new ways of thinking about healthy choices and the skills on how to achieve a healthy balance.

Equilibrium Nutrition's nutrition program at MobilizeYouth focuses on education, support and empowerment. Nutrition coaches guide parents on practical meal planning at each weekly session and answer multiple questions about how to best support their child and family towards better health. Coaches' instruction comes in the form of recipe sharing, label education, grocery store tours, preparation tips and guidance in offering solutions to common difficult challenges faced by the family with an overweight youth.

Motivating parents about what it takes to make yummy, fast, healthy meals and snacks on a daily basis dispels the notion that ‘nutrition takes time'. Most moms learn quickly with coaches' help how to adjust their lifestyles; kids and teens also learn that it is within their power to make changes.

The MobilizeYouth fitness program compliments Equilibrium Nutrition's program because it instills understanding in each participant how food is used in the body as fuel, for building muscles and decreasing fat. In addition, sessions on building awareness about barriers to healthy eating, raising self-esteem, understanding the influence of media and coping with peer pressure are facilitated by all coaches.
